The Maine Girls’ Academy is a community that challenges girls to rise above the norm - one that inspires hard work, values exploration and a commitment to developing tomorrow’s leaders. We give every girl the resources, opportunity and support she needs to realize her best self—both as a student and person. Here, girls with dreams are encouraged to become women of vision, to lead confidently and embrace every opportunity.
Our curriculum, the Mercy Matters Program, offers an inquiry-based and social justice centered college preparatory experience which integrates the following signature threads:
E-STEAM (Ethics-infused Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics):
Given our value of educating the whole girl, we actively integrate ethics and the arts into our rigorous study of traditional STEM subjects. Our E-STEAM education is the only one of its kind in New England; through an ethical lens, MGA students engage in inquiry-based experiences as well as problem solving using the skills of collaboration, creativity and innovation.
Leadership:
Leadership development and service are the foundational values of an Academy education. Our four-year leadership and service development program, integrates educational excellence, collaboration, concern for women and children, compassion and service with social justice, self-discovery, creativity, critical thinking and communication skills. The program culminates in a capstone project that demonstrates students’ commitment to global and community interests and their ability to contribute to those interests in a meaningful way.
Global Citizenship:
We emphasize the unity, interdependence and diversity of human society. Through our school community and globally minded curriculum, each student develops an appreciation for world cultures and languages and a passion for making the world a better place. We promote ethical inquiry, encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and prepare them for lives of action and involvement.
